Delightful, homemade greeting cards are inexpensive and easy to make for any occasion using just an iron and a few simple materials. Follow these steps to make a variety of cards today!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • fabric scraps
  • cardstock
  • scissors
  • iron
  • press cloth
  • colored pens
  • paper-backed fusible web such as Wonder Under or HeatnBond
  1. Step 1

    Make a Press Cloth

    Simply a piece of fabric that can tolerate high heat, a press cloth is placed between the hot iron and the surface to be ironed. Cut to about 8”x10”or so, any 100% cotton fabric in white or off-white will work for this project.

  2. Step 2

    Make Card Base

    Determine the finished card size desired. Cut cardstock to size, allowing for front and back, and fold. For additional flair, you can plan the fold to be off-center!

  3. Step 3

    Prepare Fabric Cutouts

    Following the manufacturer’s directions, iron paper-backed fusible web to the backside of your fabrics. Using sharp scissors cut motifs from the fabric or any shapes you desire.

    Affix cutouts

    Right side up, position the fabric cutouts on the card front. Use a dry iron and follow the manufacturer’s directions to adhere the fabric to the cardstock. Allow to cool. After cooling, test the edge of a cutout for secure adhesion. If the fabric is not firmly glued down, press a little longer.

  5. Step 5

    Additional Embellishment

    Use colored pens to outline shapes or add a greeting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Holiday or other theme fabrics provide a wide variety of suitable motifs for decorating cards.
  • Embellish envelopes to match!
  • Paper-backed fusible web is available at most fabric stores.
  • Use a dry iron! Steam will warp or distort the cardstock.
