Things You'll Need:
- Size U.S. 10 needles
- 1 ball of Bulky weight yarn
- Row counter
- Tapestry needle

Step 1
Cast on 64 stitches. Create 36 rows, measuring 5 inches in length. Do this by knitting two then purling two.

Step 2
Knit your second stitch together with your first at row 37. Make sure that at the end you have 48 stitches on your needle.

Step 3
At row 38 knit two together and purl one all the way across so you have 32 stitches.

Step 4
For rows 39 and 40, knit one then purl one all the way across.

Step 5
At rows 41 and 42 knit two together the entire way across making sure to end with eight stitches on your needle.

Step 6
Leave a 24 inch long tail on your winter hat and cut the yarn. Use a tapestry needle to thread the tail through your remaining stitches then use a mattress stitch to sew the back of the winter hat together and weave in the ends.
