2. Find your local surplus store and look for flooring at significant discounts. Often this flooring is what you would find in the big box stores but cost up to half off.

3. See if you have a Habitat for Humanity near you. Not only can you find flooring here at steep discounts, the money will be going to a good cause as well.

4. Finally, make sure to look into cheaper options. If you want hardwood, look into laminate. Instead of slate, try ceramic tile. You can even save money just by choosing a different color. So, make sure to check out all your options before buying.
