Convincing your boss that you are worthy of a promotion may be easier said than done. As companies tighten their budgets, it is important for employees to work harder and prove themselves at work.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do a fantastic job at your assigned tasks. This should go without saying, but if you not only meet your goals and boss' expectations, but exceed them, you will surely leave an impression on the boss.

  2. Step 2

Take on extra tasks. Offer to help in other areas in an effort to help the company. This shows your loyalty to the company and your willingness to step up and help when needed.

  3. Step 3

Dress to impress. The better you dress, the more confident you will be, thus making your work excel that much more. This will also help you get noticed by your boss, as he or she will see you take yourself seriously.

  4. Step 4

Maintain contact with your boss. The more he or she sees you, talks to you and interacts with you, the more likely you are to be thought of when promotion time comes.

  5. Step 5

Ask for the promotion directly. Showing the boss you are interested in pursuing a higher position within the company will bring you to the forefront. If a position becomes available, and your boss is unaware of your desires, you may be overlooked for someone else who has made their intentions known. Speak up to get your "hat in the ring" so to speak.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be persistent, but not annoying or overbearing.
  • Be patient.
  • Work hard. Then work harder.
