How to Design a Paper Plate Shield
Shields are a fun accessory for play fighting. They also make good props in plays or films. Finding authentic looking shields can be rather difficult and, when you do find one, they're usually expensive. Thankfully, it's easy and inexpensive to make your own shields at home using paper plates, hot glue, and decorating materials. The more effort you put into your shield, the more authentic it will look. However, kids can have fun just making simple shields as well.

1
Decide how large you would like your shield to be. For a small child's shield, just use one paper plate. For older children or adults, hot glue many paper plates together along the edges (slightly overlapping) until you reach the desired size.
-
2
Decide what shape you would like your shield to be. You may keep it round or use scissors to cut around the edges to form the desired shape.

3
Using a paper plate, cut two strips of material that are each about 2 inches wide and 8 inches long. Glue these strips of paper onto the back of the shield, forming two loops.
-
4
Glue aluminum foil all over the front of the shield to give it a metallic look.
-
5
Decorate your shield as desired. Cut out pieces of construction paper in different shapes, and glue them on the front of the shield. Draw on it with markers, or decorate it in any other way you'd like.
