Things You'll Need:
- Pellet rifle and pellets
- Rifle rest or sand bags
- Targets and target stand
- Safety glasses
- Small screwdriver
-
Step 1
Set the pellet rifle in a sturdy rifle rest. The gun can't move while it is being shot during this process. Use sand bags to prop up the rifle if a commercial rest is not available.
-
Step 2
Set up a target 10 feet away from the end of the rifle. Be aware of what lies beyond your target and shoot safely by using an appropriate backstop.
-
Step 3
Center the cross-hairs on the target's bull's-eye. Carefully take a shot without disturbing the rifle. Make note of where the pellet hit the target.
-
Step 4
Check to make sure the pellet hit the target just below the bull's-eye's center and that the impact point is lined up on the vertical axis with the center. If the shot is too high or too low, remove the scope's elevation cap and make an elevation adjustment. If the shot is not lined up vertically, remove the windage cap and make a windage adjustment.
-
Step 5
Take another shot and confirm that the pellet hits the target in the correct spot. Once the center of the target has been hit, reposition the target to 10 yards away. Carefully take another shot with the scope's cross-hairs aligned on the bull's-eye.
-
Step 6
Make small adjustments to the windage and elevation until the pellet hits the bull's-eye dead center. Shoot until you are satisfied with where the shot impacts the target. The rifle is now sighted-in for 10 yards.
