Thanks to the advent of digital mapping technology, creating a road map to your destination has never been easier. So before you hit the road, print a map and step-by-step directions that will help you arrive at your destination quickly and without confusion. This article will help you work with two of the most popular mapping websites, Mapquest and Google Maps.

Type www.mapquest.com into your web browser.

Click on the "Directions" icon in the toolbar on the top of your screen.

Type in your starting and ending locations.

If you want to customize your route, click on the "Directions Options" link, which is located under your ending location. Here you can request that MapQuest take you on the route with the shortest driving distance. Otherwise, MapQuest automatically takes you on the route that will take the shortest driving time. You can also customize your route so that you can avoid toll roads or highways.

Click on the "Get Directions" button.

The new page will display the total driving time it takes to reach your destination and the total distance. There is also a link to a page that allows you to calculate fuel costs. Below this information, you will find your customized road map and driving directions. Using the zoom tool on the left-hand part of the road map, you can zoom in and out to see different sections of your route. Print as many views as needed.
