How to Replace Belts on an Oreck XL Upright

Replacing the belt on an Oreck XL upright vacuum takes only a few minutes. You can buy a replacement belt at Oreck dealerships or order one from any of dozens of online retailers that carry vacuum replacement parts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Oreck XL upright
  • Replacement belt
  • Scissor
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  1. Step 1

    Unplug the vacuum cleaner and turn it upside down so the roller assembly and brush are facing upward.

  2. Step 2

    Remove the five screws holding the metal plate to the bottom of the vacuum.

  3. Step 3

    Remove the old belt on the right-hand side of the roller. If it's broken, simply pull it out of the vacuum and throw it away. if it is worn out but still on the roller, cut it off with scissors.

  4. Step 4

    Place a new belt on the motor drive shaft pulley, which is also on the right-hand side aligned with the roller.

  5. Step 5

    Slip the edge of the belt over the roller pulley on the far right and rotate the roller to pull the belt onto the pulley until it slides in place.

  6. Step 6

    Make sure there are no twists in the belt.

  7. Step 7

    Replace the coverplate and five screws, and you're ready to use the appliance.
