How to Convert DVD to Divx With Dvdx

DVDx lets you convert a DVD to many different formats including VCD2.0, SCVD1.0 and AVI which is also called DivX. It lets you perform the process in one step, which is handy as the whole process can take quite a while, and doing it in one step will let you go out for the day or evening. DVDx is free, but you can subscribe and get extensive documentation.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the DivX5.0 video codec. This codec will have installed automatically when you ran DVDx's setup program.

    • 2

Launch DVDx and open up the DVD. You can browse for the DVD's folder by clicking on the "File" menu and selecting the first option which is labeled "Open DVD Root."

    • 3

Set the "Output Settings." Don't worry about adjusting the zooming or changing the aspect ratio for now until you've got the hang of the whole process, but just know that you can. You may well want to play around with these settings later. Leave the Export settings set to the default for now.

    • 4

Set the first tab in Output Settings to "AVI-DivX." Select "Use Lame" next to the Audio Lame button. The default is 192 KBits, which will be fine.

    • 5

Select the DivX dropdown in the next field and press the "Pass 1" button. Again leave the defaults set as they are on the dialog box which will appear. But change the drop down to "2 Pass, first Pass." You will have plenty of time to read up on different bitrates and output resolutions while the file is being processed.

    • 6

Click on the "Pass 2" checkbox and then the "Pass 2" button. Again, leave the defaults set as they are on the dialog box which will appear. Except in this case, change the drop down to "2 Pass, second Pass."

      Press the "Encode" button.
