Candles are often used during a wedding. One popular tradition is the unity candle. The mother of the bride and the mother of the groom use separate candles to light one candle representing the blending of the lives of their two children. Candles are also used in weddings as decorations at the reception or as favors for the guests to take home. You can spruce up wedding candles with simple ribbon decorations.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White, 3-inch diameter candle
  • 2 white, tall, thin candles
  • Multiple heights of white, thick candles
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbon in 3 different colors

    Unity Candle

  1. Step 1

Cut three 6-inch strips of ribbon. Two strips should be the same color. Cut the ends at an angle rather than straight across.

  2. Step 2

Tie each ribbon in a bow around the 3-inch diameter white candle. The colors should alternate. Make sure the ribbons are separated by about 1 inch.

  3. Step 3

Put a dot of glue behind the bows with a hot glue gun and secure them to the unity candle. Allow it to dry.

  4. Step 4

Cut two more 6-inch pieces of ribbon in the same color that you used for the middle ribbon on the unity candle.

  5. Step 5

Tie the ribbon in a bow around the small candles. You may need to trim the ribbon if it is too long. There should be about 1 inch hanging down from the bow.

  6. Step 6

Place a dot of glue behind the bows to secure them and allow them to dry.

  7. Reception Candles

  8. Step 1

Measure the width of the various heights of candles. Cut all three colors of ribbon in lengths that are slightly longer than the width of the candle.

  9. Step 2

Use one strip of ribbon in each color and wrap it around the base of a candle about 2 or 3 inches from the top, in a layered look. You can arrange them to touch each other to look like one thick ribbon or you can space them 1/2 inch apart.

  10. Step 3

Secure the ends together by putting a drop of glue on one end of the ribbon and pressing the other end into the glue. Allow them to dry.
