Make Nutty Caramel Apples

Apple season is a great time of year. There are so many good recipes, apple pies, strudels, apple butter and the kids favorite, Caramel Apples. Caramel apples are so easy to make and the whole family can help!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • extras will be skewers and waxed paper
  1. Step 1

    INGREDIENTS:
    5 medium apples
    1 cup sugar
    3/4 cup dark corn syrup
    1 cup cream
    2 tablespoons butter
    1 teaspoon vanilla

  2. Step 2

    PREPARATION:
Wash the apples, make sure to remove the stems, stick skewers in the stem end of the apples.
Cook the sugar, syrup, cream and butter to the firm-ball stage which is 245 degrees on a candy thermometer. Do not stir.
Remove from heat and add the vanilla.

  3. Step 3

    CREATING THE NUTTY CARAMEL APPLES:
Dip apples into the syrup, spoon syrup over apples to cover completely.
Remove apples and hold the skewer between your palms and spin for a moment to cool the caramel. Now you can roll the apples in grated nuts of your choice--peanuts work very well! Put apples on a tray with waxed paper to set. ENJOY!

Tips & Warnings
  • Careful when dipping in the caramel - it will be very hot.
