Step 1
The First Impression: Walk confidently, offer a firm handshake, make eye contact, introduce yourself, and always remember to smile.
-
Step 2
Be aware of time constraints. Don't be in a hurry to get out of there and don't constantly look at your watch. It sends the wrong signals.
-
Step 3
Be calm and patient. Listen. Don't talk too much, interrupt, or go off the subject. Remember not to fidget.
-
Step 4
Don't pause too long before answering a question. If you do need a second don't be afraid to take it. Just don't make it a habit of taking long pauses for each question.
-
Step 5
It is alright to take notes and refer to them later.
-
Step 6
Always try to keep the discussion on your strong points and how they relate and benefit the company or the job you are applying for. Don't exaggerate or embellish any accomplishments.
-
Step 7
If you don't know an answer be honest and admit that, but don't let that conversation end there. Offer solutions on where you could find the answer and how you can network to find answers to questions you don't know.
-
Step 8
It is very appropriate to ask about salary range and benefits if you don't know. Don't ask about vacation time. It is also appropriate to ask about an estimated time frame for the decision on the job.
-
Step 9
When the interview is over give a firm handshake, thank them for their time, and walk confidently out of the room.
