Looking for the best way to see all the major Washington DC monuments, with little to no money? Do it on foot, and here is how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comfortable shoes, its a walk. If you are unfamiliar with the city, its always a good idea to have a map with you.
  1. Step 1

Park your car in one of the parking lots near the Jefferson Memorial, along Ohio Dr next to the Potomac.

  2. Step 2

Walk to the Jefferson Memorial. Notice the George Mason Memorial on your right as you aproach the tidal basin from the river, this will help you find your car on the way back.

You'll get a very peaceful view of the city from the front steps.

  3. Step 3

Walk to the Washington Monument. To go inside you'll need to get tickets. I strongly recommend getting them in advance from the website (http://www.recreation.gov), but this does cost $1.50 per ticket. The normal tour includes an elevator ride up and down. If you want more, you can do the walk down tour by getting tickets at either 10:00 or 11:30.

  4. Step 4

Walk to the World War II memorial. Don't forget to check the registry for friends and family who fought in the war (www.wwiimemorial.com).

  5. Step 5

Walk along the north side of the reflecting pool to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

  6. Step 6

    Walk to the Lincoln Memorial.

  7. Step 7

Walk to the Korean War Memorial.

  8. Step 8

Walk to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial.

  9. Step 9

Continue around the tidal basin. When you reach the George Mason Memorial again, head along the river to your car.
