When selling a home or investigating purchasing a prospective home, it is important to get a home inspection performed. A home inspection will help you find any repairs that need done or safety issues with the home. Here is a guide to estimating home inspection cost.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine how detailed you want the home inspection to be. An short inspection done in 1-2 hours can cost $100-$200 and includes a handwritten report. However, if you want a more detailed inspection that takes several hours and is complete with a typed report and pictures, be prepared to pay an average of $260-$360 for the home inspection cost.

  2. Step 2

Decide what kind of home inspection the property will require. If there is a swimming pool, an additional inspection for the pool will cost $75-$125 extra. It is also a good idea to have homes inspected for pest and termites, which can add $75-$120 more to the home inspection cost.

  3. Step 3

Shop around for the best value for a home inspection. If you automatically choose the inspector that a real estate agent recommends, you may end up unnecessarily adding to the home inspection cost if the two are partners. A recommended home inspector is not always the best value. Do some research before choosing a home inspector.
