How to Make Pink Themed Raffle Baskets

October is breast cancer awareness month, and many groups around the country help raise money through hosting a raffle during an event. For example "Volley for the Cure" often involves selling raffle tickets for several pink themed baskets, during a school volley ball game. Here are some ideas on how to make a variety of baskets to raffle.

Men are just as susceptible to breast cancer as women are. Consider making several of your baskets for men too.

For each of the basket ideas below, consider color combination's that include pink as well as solid pink colored items. For example, black with pink trim, white with pink trim, and pink with other trim colors.

These ideas work well for other raffle baskets. Simply adjust the color from pink to another color.

1. Movie Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Wrap the items in clear cellophane
   
   Items to include:
   -floor gaming chair or bean bag chair
   -movie or gift certificate for movie rental
   -popcorn bowl
   -microwave popcorn
   -strawberry milkshake Whopper candy
   -pink coated M&M's candy
   -Good & Plenty candy
   -mug or reusable cup for a beverage
   -2 liter of pink lemonade or similar

2. Bedding Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: pink or white laundry basket
   
   Items to include (white with pink or black with pink works nicely also):
   -bed sheets
   -pillow cases
   -socks or slippers
   -blankets
   -lap desk

   Studious Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Backpack, satchel, or stand up book bag
   
   Items to include:
   
   -notebooks
   -journals
   -pens and pencils
   -sticky notes
   -calculator
   -stapler
   -head phones for a hand held or portable radio

   Pampering Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Wicker basket with handles
   
   Items to include:
   -eye mask
   -head band or wrap
   -shower scrubber
   -tweezers
   -candles

   -body creams
   -bottle of wine and wine glass
   -book and book light
   -hand held massager

   Pet Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Pet food bowl, Pet bed (wrap it with other items with clear cellophane)
   
   Items to include:
   -pet leash
   -pet comb and brush
   -gift certificate for a pet grooming session
   -bananas for dogs to wear
   -pet collars
   -pet toys
   -pet shampoo

6. Gardening Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Garden tote or bag
   
   Items to include:
   -garden tools
   -plant seeds
   -gardening gloves
   -garden books
   -books or organic gardening
   -live mums or herb plants
   -knee pads
   -plant pot
   -lawn chair

7. Cooking Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Large cooking bowl or dish tub
   
   Items to include:
   -Cookbook (check book stores and online stores for one related to breast cancer)
   -measuring cups
   -glass canisters (with pink lids)
   -oven mitt, silicone
   -sink strainer (with pink ribbon handle, see resources for online link)
   -pink ribbon cookie cutter
   -magnetic clips
   -spoons and spatulas
   -kitchen timer

8. Romance Picnic Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Wicker or other picnic basket
   
   Items to include:
   -blanket
   -eating utensils (pink plastic ware or similar)
   -bottle of wine (or non-alcoholic beverage)
   -wine glasses
   -wine glass charms
   -CD with romantic music

9. Sports Basket
   
   Basket Ideas: Sport themed duffle bag

   -t-shirt
   -tickets to an upcoming local game(or season ticket)

    Basket Ideas: place all items in a gym bag or similar

    -gym towel
    -small hand weights
    -jump rope
    -sports socks
    -fleece jacket
    -green tea teabags
    -reusable water bottle

11. Car Care Basket
    
    Basket ideas: large bucket
    
    Items to include:
    -car sponge or car washing cloths
    -car wax
    -key chain
    -reusable oil filter
    -organizers that attach to the car visor (CD holder, Sunglasses holder etc)
    -windshield wiper solution

12. Do It Yourself Basket
    
    Basket Ideas: Tool bag or Tool box
    
    Items to include:
    -screwdrivers
    -hammer
    -nails
    -screws
    -tape measure
    -small tools such as a rechargeable screw driver set
    -work gloves
    -duct tape
    -flash light

    Crafter's Basket
    
    Basket ideas: large sewing kit basket, set of plastic organizing drawers, or tote bag.
    
    Items to include:
    -pink handled scissors
    -thread
    -embroidery floss and needles
    -yarn and crochet or knitting needles
    -craft how-to books
    -bottles of tacky glue
    -beads, glitter or sequins

Tips & Warnings

• add pink candy to any basket.
• Search stores for clearance items at the end of October (to save for the following year).
• Search for summer "pink" kitchenware in clearance aisles.
• Check candy bins in bulk food areas for pink coated candy.
• Shop at local dollar stores for pink car washing mitts and pads.
• Shop in the auto aisles of your department store for pink ribbon car fresheners.
