How to Get Rid of Cellulite on Your Legs


Cellulite is lumpy pockets under the skin caused by fat deposits, commonly found on legs. It typically is more of a problem for women than for men, and can be caused by genetics or excessive fat storage in the cells. The appearance of cellulite may be reduced with proper health habits and a visit to your dermatologist.

Exercise to get rid of cellulite. Since cellulite is made up of concentrated fatty deposits, cardiovascular exercise can be effective at diminishing cellulite. Swimming, bicycling, jogging, walking, and stair climbing burn body fat and may reduce cellulite. Include stretching as a part of your fitness regimen. This could be in the form of warming up and cooling down for at least 10 to 20 minutes, or engaging in a stretching workout such as yoga or Pilates. Stretching can help lengthen limbs and smooth out the skin on your legs.

Do resistance training with weights in order to aid in celllulite reduction. Resistance training is different from cardiovascular exercise in that it focuses more on sculpting the body rather than increasing heart strength and burning body fat. If you have access to a gym, try circuit training. This is lifting weights for short periods of time, usually 30 seconds to one minute, working major muscle groups during that time. Alternate lower-body with upper-body exercises. A gym is not necessary; using barbells, ankle weights or your own body as resistance can help increase muscle definition and decrease the appearance of leg cellulite.

Eat a nutritious diet to help get rid of cellulite. Since cellulite is an accumulation of excess fat, a healthy diet, along with exercise, may help reduce these fat stores on your legs. Make sure you get plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and water. Include grapefruit, strawberries, broccoli, cauliflower and spinach in your diet. These foods are low in carbohydrates, high in fiber and rich in antioxidants. Eat fresh fish, such as tuna and salmon, as well as poultry and pork. Round out this diet with complex carbohydrates such as multigrain bread, fortified cereals, oatmeal and barley.

Remove leg cellulite with laser treatments. This should be done by a dermatologist and should be combined with diet and exercise. It is not guaranteed to eliminate cellulite, and the number of treatments necessary will vary for each individual.
