How to Make an Antique Nurse Hat
An antique hat can add flair to a nurse costume. Nurses once wore caps similar to a sailor's hat. With a few common items and some simple steps, anyone can replicate an antique hat to top off a nurse's costume.
Things You'll Need
- 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of white paper
- Red marker
- Hole puncher
- Scissors
- Yarn

Fold a piece of 8 1/2-by-11-inch white paper in half horizontally.

Fold down the paper from the crease, one third of the length.

Lay down the paper with the folded part facing downward.

Bend each side of the paper so that they form a triangle, with the top equal to 2 inches.

Smooth the creases.

Further fold both edges so that they form a square on either side.

Turn the hat over and use a red marker to draw a cross on the center. Color a 1/2-inch red stripe bordering the top of the front edge of the paper.

Punch a hole on each back side of the hat. Thread a 20-inch-long piece of yarn through both holes and tie the ends together.

Tips & Warnings
You can use red construction paper in place of a red marker to apply the insignia. Make the strip of yarn shorter or longer, depending on the size of the person wearing the costume.
