How to Type in Chat Rooms
A chat room is a website where you can have a conversation anytime you like, with people who live locally or anywhere in the world. Chat rooms have their own policies concerning who can use them and how they can be used. According to tcs.cybertipline.com, "A chat room is probably the most dangerous area on the Internet." Remember that many kinds of individuals with various purposes join a chat room. There are lots of people in such rooms who will present information. They will also pretend to be nice people. Chat rooms have been used by child molesters to find victims. Therefore, do not give out your personal information, such as your real name, address and phone number, for your own protection.

Use a computer with keyboard and Internet access if you want to chat. Go to the website or messenger site where you want to participate. You must register a nickname and/or password with other information if required. Some websites will ask you to download their software to be able to chat.

Choose the type of room you are interested to join and enter it. Input your nickname and password when prompted. If needed, go to the link that says "Enter Chat" or "Join a Room." Yahoo Messenger will ask you to do chat verification. Wait until you are connected.

You will be directed to a public room where you can read other people's messages. You can also see the nicknames of the people online. Keep in mind that your message can be read by everyone in that particular chat room. Some chat rooms will allow you to have private conversation with an online member. If you want to do that, just double click the person's nickname you want to chat with and a small box will pop up. If you are in a public or private room, type your message in the space provided which is beside the word "Send." After done typing, just click "Send" and you will see your nickname with the message. Just do the same thing every time you want to send a message. You can make your message look different by clicking "B" to make it bold, "U" for underlined and "I" for italic on the toolbar bar in the Compose window. You can also change the color of your message and add an emoticon if you want by clicking the color chart and smiley face, respectively.

When done chatting, just close the box or window by clicking "X."
