*What are you going to school for?
Do you know what you want to go to college for? This should be your first question. If you know what you want to go to school for, you can start to do some research. Research local schools and see what courses are required. If you are not completely sure, you could get some required classes out of the way while you make up your mind. -
2
*Where to start.
Decide which college you plan to attend. Go to their website and find out what you need to do to enroll. Then go to the admissions page and apply to enroll. Contact the school and make an appointment with a counselor. -

3
*Fill out the FASFA.
You will need to fill out a FASFA before you do anything with financial aid. Go to the schools website and find the financial aid page. That page will have a link to the FASFA form. You will need your previous years taxes, monthly income, household expenses, and any liquid asset information to fill this out. Do not lose your pin number you get from completing the FASFA. -
4
*Financial aid.
Go to the financial aid department at the college. You will need to fill out an application for financial aid. To fill this out you will need the same financial information used for the FASFA. -
5
*Have your school records sent and testing.
The college will request a copy of your transcripts from high school or any previous college. If you have not attended school for a while you might be required to take an adult assessment test. This test will find out where you might need improvement and may require you take some recommended courses. -
6
*Appointment with your counselor.
When you see the counselor, ask any questions that you may have. The counselor is there to help you get to where you want to be. I would recommend taking it slow at first. Take two classes your first semester, just to see what it is like. The counselor will tell you what classes you need to take and when. -
7
*Register for your classes.
Register for your classes as early as you can. Classes can fill up very quickly. If you pick your classes early, you can mold them to your own schedule. If you wait you will lose options.
Now you are ready for college.
