Remove a Prosthetic Makeup Effect
Remove a Prosthetic Makeup Effect

Never yank off a prosthetic! Doing so can damage the prosthetic itself, rip hairs out, or (depending on the adhesive used) rip off skin!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Spirit Gum remover, acetone, or mineral oil
  • q-tips
  • patience
  1. Step 1

Use a clean, dry q-tip to "feel around" the edges of a latex prosthetic, gently pushing toward the center. Inevitably one edge will have less hold than other, and you'll be able to slip the q-tip under an edge.

  2. Step 2

Take a second q-tip and dip it in Spirit Gum remover, acetone, or mineral oil. Gently push this q-tip under the edge of the prosthetic. Slowly move and twist until you can easily pull up more of the edge. Continue the process until you can remove the prosthetic without difficulty.

  3. Step 3

Use your Spirit Gum remover or equivalent to wash the remaining adhesive from your skin. Make sure there is no sticky residue left. Any remaining makeup can be washed off using a makeup remover, cleansing cloth, or soap and water.

  • Be extremely careful when working around the face or other sensitive skin areas.
