An Abyssinian cat is a very beautiful purebred cat with a reddish or fawn undercoat. Abyssinian cats are playful and elegant creatures who make great household pets. One you add one to your home you want to make sure that you can care for it properly.

    Make sure to brush the cat's coat at least twice a week. An Abyssinian cat has a lush overcoat and a thick undercoat. To keep both coats in good working order and care for the cat properly you should make sure to brush the cat often enough to let the kitty's coat remain free from knots. This is important. You can also use a chamois cloth to help the cat's coat remain shiny. Rub the cloth over the cat's back at least twice a week. Get the Abyssinian cat used to the sensation early by using it on the cat when he is a kitten.

    Another important aspect of caring for any Abyssinian cat is to make sure that you feed the cat properly. Abyssinians should be fed at least twice a day. Feed them dry food during the day and wet food twice a day. Make sure you have sufficient feeding supplies. Abyssinian cats can get fat if they are overfed so be careful to give them the right foods to help them maintain a proper diet. Do not overfeed the cats.

Use an rolled up piece of newspaper. Capture the cat's interest with a fishing line or a pile of yarn. Toss a tennis ball in the air or roll one on the ground. Play with your Abyssinian cat and he will play with you as well.

  • Get more than one Abyssinian cat if you are away from home for a prolonged period. The two cats can play with each other and have fun.
  • Work with a good breeder. Avoid purchasing an Abby from a disreputable store. The cat should be healthy when you purchase him.
