Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your Mind
  1. Step 1

Review what you’ve already written. Is there any possible way that you can expand or elaborate what’s already been said? If you haven’t written anything, go to Step 2.

  2. Step 2

List your audience, your purpose and your content. Included in these items should be a clue as to how to get started. If it’s a research project, look at the chapter summary or review the material that you were supposed to reference. And then do an outline on the required material. From that outline, formulate a thesis. At this point you should be able to start your paper.

  3. Step 3

Mindmap. To do this draw a circle on the center of your paper. In that circle put the main topic. From the main topic make branches into several subtopics.

  4. Step 4

Review other articles or books on the subject matter you plan on reading or writing about.

  5. Step 5

Free-flow write. Write what you know whether it makes sense or not.

  6. Step 6

Consult with a friend. Let your friend look at the work you’ve previously done, and they might be able to help your writer’s block.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do something to get your mind off of the writing.
  • Have confidence in yourself and your writing.
  • If you still have writer’s block, you might want to consider changing the topic.
