Step 1
The first thing to do is be prepared with gloves, eye protection, ear plugs, good boots for stability and head protection. Do not where any loose clothing that can get caught in the chain bar and cause injury or worse.

Always be careful when starting your chain saw. Make sure the fuel can is far away to prevent any sparks causing a fire.

To start the chain saw place it on the ground and place your foot to brace it. Pull the starter rope straight out from the recoil housing. Do not pull at an angle as the rubbing of the rope against the recoil housing will fray and weaken the starter rope over time.

To prevent kickback start the chain saw before you make contact with the wood. Hold the chain saw with both hands firmly. Place your dominate hand on the rear of the chain saw for the strongest hold for safety.

Just in case you are sawing real railroad ties be careful they could contain gravel and nails which become dangerous flying objects when sawing. Examine all wood you are going to cut with your chain saw for anything that may cause kickback or injury.

Always keep a spare chain on hand in case you hit dirt or another object that will dull your blade quickly.

Your chain saw is a two cycle engine and runs on two cycle fuel so shake the fuel in the container real good before filling up the saw.

Shut down the engine when walking over a distance or over rugged terrain.
