Good inventory control can slash your operating costs.

If you own or manage a restaurant, keeping control of the food in your pantries and freezers is a big part of your job. Every piece of meat, pound of seafood and bag of flour represents a fixed cost to your business, and if you fail to properly account for those items you put your business at risk. The Infoco restaurant inventory system is designed with the specific needs of food-based businesses in mind, making it a suitable choice for many business owners. But as with so many software solutions, the Infoco restaurant inventory system will only work if you enter your data carefully and keep your sales information up to date.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your computer to make sure you have Microsoft Access installed. You need Microsoft Access 2000 or newer to run the Infoco food software program. If you do not have Microsoft Access already, you can install it from the MSARTXP disk. Simply double-click on the zipped file and run the setup program to install it.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button and choose "Search" from the list. Type "FoodInventory" in the search box and choose the drive containing the Infoco as the drive to search. Click "OK" to start the search.

    • 3

Right-click on the "FoodInventory" file and choose "Copy." Highlight the "My Documents" folder on your computer, right-click and choose "Paste" to place a copy of your file there. Go to the "My Documents" folder, find the "FoodInventory" file and right-click it. Clear the "Read only" check box if it is checked.

    • 4

Double-click the "FoodInventory" file to open it. When the file opens you have the opportunity to enter the product categories, meats, dairy products, dry goods, etc., that best suit your business.

    • 5

Enter the names of your food vendors into the "FoodInventory" database. Entering the vendor names allows you to generate automatic food orders when a particular product runs low.

    • 6

Perform a physical inventory to determine how much of each product you have on hand. Enter those inventory numbers into the "FoodInventory" database.

    • 7

Enter your sales information as you sell meals in your restaurant. This keeps the inventory up to date and helps you determine when to order additional food and how much to order.
