Purchasing tinted windows can add a large expense when buying your new car. Having the windows replaced with newly tinted windows down the line is even more expensive. Instead of paying thousands to add tinted glass to your front window, apply a window tint kit. If applied correctly, most people will never know the window has film placed over it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Window tinting
  • Heat gun
  • Cotton cloth
  • Razor blade
  1. Step 1

Visit your local auto detailing or auto parts store. Check to see what kinds of glass tinting they have. Make sure the tint is specially made for your car make, model and year. This is important because you don't want tinting that doesn't fit your window.

  2. Step 2

Navigate to a website such as "Windowtint.com" or "TintCenter.com." Both sites offer just about any kind of tinting you are looking for, including tinting based on your make, model and year. If you can't find what you are looking for in the store, you may want to purchase it from one of these sites.

  3. Step 3

Read the instructions on the window tinting once you receive it. There are several different ways to apply the tinting, some requiring heat to shrink-fit, while others need a solution to apply the film

  4. Step 4

Thoroughly clean the area you plan on attaching the tint window film. Any kind of dust, dirt or hair under the window tinting will be stuck.

  5. Step 5

Apply the window tinting and make sure it is on straight. Use the heat gun to apply heat onto the film. This will adhere the tint to the glass. Make sure to heat every part of the tint, because the last thing you need is for the tint to appear wrinkly and bubbly once the tinting has completed. You want people to think the window is actually tinted and doesn't just have film attached to it. Allow time to cool and use a razor blade to trim off any excess areas of film.
