How to Edit a Photo Online

If you have a digital photo that you would like to edit, you don't have to download a photo-editing software to your computer. There are several sites online that offer web-based photo-editing interfaces. Some of these sites have tools that rival those of expensive photo-editing software. Once you are finished editing, you can save a copy of the edited photo on your computer just as you would with standard software.

Instructions

Go to a webpage that has online photo-editing tools. Fotoflexer and Pixlr are two photo-editing websites that do not require users to sign up for an account before using their photo-editing features. Both of these sites have a variety of tools and effects to help you to enhance your photos.

Open the photo editor on Fotoflexer or Pixlr. On Fotoflexer, click "Upload Photo" on the main page and the photo you select will be opened directly into the editor. To get into the editor on Pixlr, click the "Jump in n' get started!" link on the front page. Pick "Open image from computer" from the list of options that come up when the editor opens, browse for a photo on your computer and click "Open" to pull it into the editor.

Resize a photo with either the "Crop" or "Resize tool" in Fotoflexer, or with the "Crop Tool" or "Image Size" features in Pixlr. The "Crop" feature in both sites' editors works in the same way. Click on the "Crop" tool, move the mouse over the photo, press and hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse to draw a rectangle over the area that you would like to keep. Once the rectangle is drawn, use the "handles" on the sides and corners of the square to change the crop area. When you have selected the proper area, click the "Crop" tool again and confirm that you want to save the changes.

Reduce red eye with the "Fix Red Eye" tool in Fotoflexer or the "Red Eye Reduction Tool" in Pixlr. To use, click on the tool, hover the tool over the center of each eye and click once. One click should eliminate most red eye in the photo.

Use the other tools in Fotoflexer or Pixlr to change colors and add effects. The available tools in Fotoflexer are separated by tabs at the top of the screen. Tabs include "Effects," "Decorate" and "Animations." If you have ever used Adobe Photoshop, you will find that the Pixlr layout is very similar, with all of the tools located in the toolbar on the left side of the screen. Like Fotoflexer, Pixlr includes a variety of color and effects tools.
