DIY How to Get Satellite Internet
SkyWay USA is one of the few satellite Internet service providers which allows self-installation. Both WildBlue and HughesNet will want to send an installer over to your house. A do-it-yourself installation of an Internet dish isn't too hard providing you have a basic understanding of the concepts of geometry and can read instructions. The kit can be ordered over the Internet and the trajectory covers the 48 continental United States.

1
Use the Skyfinder website to gather the dish pointing coordinates. Enter your zip code and some other information like the height of any obstructions and the website will provide the azimuth, elevation and height data for the two SkyWay satellites.
-
2
Perform a site survey. Walk around your house and find a location for the dish which isn't obstructed. You need a pretty clear view of the southern sky. The Skyfinder site will tell you the installation distance from the base of any object you need to clear, for example a tree.

3
Mount the dish. Assemble the dish and the LMB--the arm that sticks out of the center. The instructions will come in the kit.
-
4
Run the cables from the dish to the modem in the house. Locate the modem adjacent to your router or computer. Secure the grounding block and ground to a cold water pipe or a piece of rebar embedded in the ground.
-
5
Point the satellite dish using the SkyBeeper device. It comes in the kit. A high pitched sound will tell you if you're achieving optimum signal.
-
6
Connect the modem and surf the Internet.
