Trail mix is not only delicious, but it provides important calories and energy when you are hiking or engaging in other physical activities. Often when you spend many hours expending energy, it is necessary to give yourself a boost with snacks that are easy to eat. Trail mix is an ideal food for this purpose. Make trail mix out of a variety of ingredients, including dried fruit, cereal, nuts, pretzels and marshmallows.       Mix the ingredients you want in your trail mix. Suggestions include dried banana chips, dried papaya pieces, dried apple pieces, raisins, small cereal pieces, peanuts, cashews, pretzels, chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. Create the trail mix you want by adding the amounts of the ingredients desired. Use more of the ingredients you especially like to make the trail mix exactly how you want.

      Use the wooden spoon to mix the ingredients well. Stir until they are fully incorporated.

      Pour the trail mix into the plastic bags. Seal the zippers on the bags so that they are almost closed. Remove as much air as possible by squeezing the bags. Close the zippers completely after removing the air.

      Store the trail mix in the sealed bags at room temperature out of direct sunlight. Consume within 2 months for optimal freshness.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not remove as much air as possible from the bags, the marshmallows may dry out and become hard. Always reseal the bags with as much air removed from the bags as possible.
