Step 1
Measure the dimensions of your bench seat. Mark the dimensions onto a 2-inch thick piece of upholstery foam. Cut the foam to fit the dimensions with an electric knife.

Measure and cut a section of fabric and batting to fit around the upholstery foam. Fit the fabric and batting so that the front edge of your bench seat is seamless; wrap both around the foam so that the center of the fabric and batting swatches are placed on the front 2-inch edge of the foam. You will have three sides to sew, not four. Add 2 inches to the fabric dimensions as a seam allowance on the sides and 4 inches in the back; this means that you should add 2 inches to the width of your fabric and 4 inches to the length.

Step 3
Measure and pin 1-inch seams along the two edges at either end of the length of your fabric. Fold the fabric back to back and place a straight pin every 2 inches across the length. Iron the folded seams to create a clean crease. Sew a straight seam along the pinned folds, removing the pins as you go. These seams are the back of your bench seat cover where you will attach the Velcro. The extra 1 inch on both edges is to create an overlap for the Velcro enclosure.

Step 4
Fold the fabric in half, face to face. Measure and pin 1-inch seams along both sides. Sew the seams together with a straight stitch, removing the pins as you go. Iron the seams open. Flip the fabric so that your bench seat cover has the fabric facing out.

Step 5
Spray the upholstery foam with adhesive and wrap the batting around it securely. Let the adhesive dry.

Step 6
Insert the covered foam into the fabric pocket so that the front edge is in the center. Note where the seams overlap on the backside and attach the Velcro strips to create an enclosure.
