1
Prepare to be exposed to drama. Drill sergeants and other officers find it humorous to pick on new recruits. Be punctual and as efficient as possible. Do not complain, tattle on others or appear nervous and anxious in front of your superiors. That could cause drill sergeants to taunt you even more.
-
2
Train the way you think. Most recruits will become homesick, so meditate each day to prepare mentally for the lonely months ahead. Buy a notebook and prepare to write letters home to family and friends. Self-address several envelopes and give them to friends and family to encourage them to write.

3
Familiarize yourself with military terms and agreements, which differ with each branch of the military. Ask a military recruiter to go over the terms so you can better prepare yourself for boot camp.
-
4
Rise with the sun for the weeks before boot camp. Drill sergeants will usually have a full day planned that requires getting up early and keeping busy throughout the day. Expect to be fatigued in boot camp. Stay active throughout the day as much as possible to avoid the need for even a short rest.
-
5
Get in the best physical condition you can. Boot camp requires many hours of extensive drills and exercising. Eat well-balanced meals, get adequate sleep and prepare the body for expectations of boot camp. Run several miles a day and conduct extensive workout routines. Join a gym and hire a trainer if need be.
-
6
Prepare yourself mentally for being ridiculed and pushed around. Boot camp is hard on the body and the mind. In the eyes of drill sergeants, you can't do any thing right. Do not arrive at boot camp thinking you will outsmart anyone. Arrive with the knowledge that you will do the best that you can do and will accept criticism accordingly.
