You can create a professional-looking cookbook with your computer.

If you cook a lot, you may have several recipes written on scraps of paper or in a notebook. So, finding a recipe when you need it may be difficult. You can make a professional-looking cookbook for your family's recipes using your computer. Print individual pages for each recipe to add to your book as you go along. Create personalized books to give as gifts. Does this Spark an idea?

      Choose the recipes you want to include in your cookbook. Open up your word-processing program and select "Create a new document."

      Use any font you like in 38 points for the title of your recipe. Switch to an 18-point size for the rest of your recipe. If your recipe is particularly long and takes up more than one page at these sizes, try 24 points for the title and 11 for the recipe.

      After typing in your recipe and instructions, include information about where you got it, how many servings it includes, and the amount of time it takes from preparation to the table.

      Add a picture of the finished meal. Click on the insert tab in your word-processing program and select the "photo" button. The program may prompt you to select a picture from clip art or import one from your files. Choose the import option and click "browse." Select the file from its location in the dropdown and double click it.

      Arrange the layout of the words and text by right-clicking on the picture after it appears on your page. Select "format picture," and a window will appear with several tabs. Choose the layout tab and select the layout you want.

      Print your page by clicking the "file" button and selecting "print." For each page, use a three-hole punch to put holes along the left side. Put the pages into a three-ring binder.

Tips & Warnings

  • Note family favorites by using sticky notes with their names to flag the pages for special birthday or celebration meals.
