Instructions

    • 1

Decide where you want the top edge of your curtains to be. Measure up from the floor using a tape measure on both the right and the left side of the window. Say you want your curtains to hang 1 inch above the top edge of the window. Measure to that point on each side and mark with a marking pen. This is where the brackets will go. Place your brackets 1 inch to the right and left of the window frame to ensure the curtain width will cover the entire window.

Hold the left-side bracket up to the wall with the top edge of it on the measured mark. There will be two holes in the bracket. Use your marking pen to dot the wall within these holes. This will allow you to remove the bracket and still know where to drill the guide holes. Put the left bracket aside and mark the hole spots for the right side. Use a cordless drill and a 1/16-inch drill bit to drill guide holes where the marks are. Switch bits and place the left bracket in position. Insert screws. Attach the right bracket.

Put your curtains on the curtain rod by slipping the rod through the curtains pocket. The pocket is at the top edge of the curtain. When the curtains are on the rod they are ready to hang. Attach the rod to the brackets. You have hung the curtains.

Arrange the curtains the way you like them. Make sure they are evenly scrunched along the rod. Decide which side you want the one tieback to be on, the right or the left of the window. You also need to decide how far up or down the window you want the tieback to be. Take a measurement and make a dot with your marking pen at the spot where the tieback should be secured. You can also choose to use a single tieback in the center of the window to gather the curtains in the middle. The tie back must be secured to a wall. You can use a center tieback right under the bottom edge of the window. Using a cordless drill and a 1/16-inch bit, make a hole where you want the tie back attached.

Fold your tieback in half. Work the tip of a screw through the backside of the fabric, at the fold. The pattern side of the fabric should be on the backside of the fold. Hold the tieback close to the hole that has been drilled. Gently twist the screw into the hole four or five times by hand. Finish inserting the screw using the cordless drill. Draw back your curtains to the left, right or middle using this single tieback.
