Things You'll Need:
- Flower seeds
- Potted plants
- Garden signs
- Garden sculptures
- Paint
- Potting soil
- Flood light or spotlight
-
Step 1
Plant a border of flowers around your fountain. This will bring color to a concrete-colored fountain. Make your fountain the centerpiece of your flowerbed. Consider a vine plant, such as the wandering Jew plant listed in the resources section. This vine will grow around the fountain so that it becomes a natural part of your garden or yard. In addition, consider putting floating flowers in the water. If your fountain is older and you do not wish to fill it with water, use it as a planter or treat it as a statue. If your fountain has a ledge, place potted plants along the ledge.
-
Step 2
Paint your fountain. Most fountains come in plain colors, such as gray or ivory. Create a bold statement with your favorite color of paint, or pick up some marbleizing paint from a home improvement store to give it a textured look.
-
Step 3
Aim lighting on your fountain to give it life at night. You can use a flood light found at your local home improvement store or line the outside of the fountain with solar lights.
-
Step 4
Create a theme for your fountain. If your fountain has a style such as Roman, Greek, modern, contemporary or antique, consider running with that theme for decorations. For example, if your fountain represents Greek architecture, set up columns topped with potted plants.
-
Step 5
Personalize your fountain with garden signs. These signs can be found at your local home decor store or lawn and garden shop. You can also make your own with a piece of wood, some paint and a stake to mount it in the dirt. These signs can say things such as "Welcome to my garden" or "Fountain of youth."
