Banks give a free set of temporary checks to customers who open a new checking account, but they will charge a fee for personalized checks. It is usually less expensive to purchase your personalized checks from check retailers. Although you can order these checks online, it may not be a desirable option for those who are not comfortable with making transactions on the Internet. These customers can easily purchase their personalized checks by mail.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Order form
  • 2 Current checks
  • Deposit slip
  • Stamped envelope
  1. Step 1

Tear a check and deposit slip from your current checkbook. Write "VOID" across the check.

  2. Step 2

Select a retailer and request a catalog. Popular retailers include "Checks In The Mail" and "Artistic Checks" (see Resources below). The catalogs include order forms that you can mail in. You may make the request on their websites or by calling their customer service number.

  3. Step 3

Complete the order form. Select a design for your check, select single or duplicate checks, and write the number of boxes you want. Write in your name, mailing address, bank name, routing number and account number. Tear the order form from the catalog.

  4. Step 4

Write a check payable to the check retailer.

  5. Step 5

Address an envelope to the check retailer.

  6. Step 6

Place the voided check, deposit slip, order form, and check for payment in the envelope. Mail your order to the retailer.
