Paper Bag Pumpkin Centerpiece

Paper bags make the perfect craft supply for quick, easy and inexpensive Halloween crafts. Kids will enjoy decorating this pumpkin craft with their favorite face. With a handful of fall colored leaves glued to a paper plate and the paper bag pumpkin to top it all, this Halloween decoration will look great sitting in the center of your table.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Orange Paper Bag
  • Fall Colored Paper
  • Sturdy Paper Plate
  • Dark Brown Paper
  • Length of Stieve or Straw
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Newspaper or Tissue Paper
  1. Step 1

Cut out some eyes a nose and mouth with the dark brown paper. You can also use black paper for this step.

  2. Step 2

Stuff the bag with newspaper or tissue paper to form a pumpkin shape. Fold over the top of the bag and glue or staple in place.

  3. Step 3

Glue the facial features to the paper bag. If you don't have an orange bag simply paint it orange and let it dry before doing this step.

  4. Step 4

Cut off a length of stieve for the stem. Stieve is that really thick rope like string. Once you have the length you want for the stem, unravel the stieve. Cut a couple of slits at the bottom and then twist back together above these cuts. Glue these to the paper bag allowing the slits to hang over the bag.

  5. Step 5

Cut out several leaves from your fall colored paper. Make some large and some medium and small sizes. Make sure you have enough to completely cover your paper plate.

  6. Step 6

Set your paper plate on the table upside down (to where the bottom of the plate is facing you). Arrange the leaves around the plate alternating sizes and colors. Once you have your design for your leafs, glue these to the paper plate. If you want you can leave the edge of the plate showing. Just paint the plate if you are going to have some of it showing.

  7. Step 7

Now glue the bottom of the paper bag pumpkin to the center of the paper plate creating your centerpiece.

Tips & Warnings
  • For younger kids make the facial features easy to trace and cut. Older kids can get a bit fancier with the facial features. You can even use pumpkin carving templates to create a fun or scary paper bag pumpkin craft.
  • Instead of using fall leafs you can use different Halloween cut outs like ghosts, bats, witches or even more pumpkins to cover your paper plate.
