How to Configure SquirrelMail

SquirrelMail is a web-based email application written in PHP. It can be used on any web server that has PHP installed and access to an SMTP or IMAP email server. The pages are presented in pure HTML 4.0 and do not require JavaScript. SquirrelMail comes with an address book, the ability to manipulate folders and strong MIME support. Other functionality is provided by plug-ins available from the SquirrelMail website (see "Additional Resources," below).

      Install SquirrelMail on your web server.

      Open a terminal window where you will type the following commands.

      Type "cd <path_to_squirrelmail>/config" to change to the SquirrelMail configuration directory.

      Type "./config.pl" to bring up a configuration menu.

      Select "Option 2--Server Settings" from the menu list.

      Select option 1 from the sub-menu and enter your domain name.

      Select option 3 from the sub-menu and define your SMTP server.

      Type "r" to return to the main menu.

      Select "Option 4--General Options."

    • 10

      Select option 1 from the sub-menu and enter the path to the SquirrelMail data directory.

      Select option 2 from the sub-menu and enter the path to the attachments directory.

      Type "r" to return to the main menu.

    • 13

      Type "s" to save the configuration.

    • 14

      Type "q'' to exit the configuration utility.
