How to Run Windows Update on XP Version 2002

With all of the applications and functions a Microsoft Windows XP operating system must undertake, aspects of the system--whether it be small files or full programs--will sooner or later need to be updated. This does not have to be a hard process and can automatically be done by using the Windows Update function on the XP version 2002 (or any other XP version) operating system.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the computer. Once it has finished loading, click the "Start" button on the desktop. This will pull up the start menu.

    • 2

Select "Control Panel." This will bring up the Control Panel window. Click the "Systems" window, followed by the "Automatic Updates" tab. In "Automatic Updates" click "Performance and Maintenance," then "Automatic Updates" once again. Select how often you would like the computer to search for updates. Click "Apply" and Windows will scan the computer, as well as connect to its parent site, to determine if any updates are available for the computer.

    • 3

Click "Install" if the listed updates are available for the computer to install. This will download and install the updates automatically. Occasionally for larger updates, such as those done to critical parts of the Windows XP 2002 operating system, will require the computer to restart. Once the computer finishes its restart, the updates are complete.
