Things You'll Need:
- Sewing kit or machine
- Scissors
- Buttons
-
Step 1
Purchase felt fabric by the yard; plan generously, and allow 1 yard per two pairs of shoes for ladies or one pair for men. Allow extra fabric for boots or larger shoes. Purchase buttons for closures, if desired---one per shoe cover.
-
Step 2
Determine how large your shoe cover should be by using your shoe size; get a good idea by placing one shoe on top of the fabric and folding it over to fully cover the shoe. Allow an inch of extra fabric on each side. Cut two squares of equal size from your felt.
-
Step 3
Fold down a small edge on the top side of your felt square, and sew it in place, creating a smooth side with no raw edge. Repeat on the matching felt square. Stack your felt squares so that both sewn edges are touching, with the folds on the outside. Sew the other three raw edges together, about 1/2 inch from the edges, leaving the top folded edge open.
-
Step 4
Invert the fabric pocket you made, bringing the seams to the inside. Use your finger or the tip of a pair of scissors to gently press out the corners. On one of the open edges, cut a hole slightly larger than your buttons on the top center of the fabric. Finish the edges of the button hole. Sew a button on the inside of the opposite edge. Fasten the shoe-covering pouch with the button closure.
