It was on sale, there was a coupon, whatever the case may have been. Now you have a great big box of cereal that no one will eat. Of course it has been opened, so you can't give it to a food bank. What now? It can't go to waste, not in this economy. Try this recipe.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 c white sugar
  • 1 c milk
  • 1 c butter
  • 6 c cereal
  • 1/2 c cocoa powder
  • 1 c nuts or coconut
  1. Step 1

Combine the white sugar, milk, and butter in a heavy sauce pan. Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Let the mixture boil for 5 to 6 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  2. Step 2

In a large bowl, mix the cereal, nuts and cocoa powder. Make sure the mixture is mixed well, as it is easier to do at this point, before the syrup is added.

  3. Step 3

Once the mixture from Step 1 has boiled for 5 to 6 minutes, pour it over the dry mixture from Step 2. Gently stir until the cereal is evenly coated. It should also start to hold its shape a little. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper and let cool.

Tips & Warnings
  • I use 7 cups of whatever cereal I have on hand and oatmeal. My family doesn't like nuts in their cookies. Mixing cereals create a neat texture.

on 11/4/2009 Terrific idea for getting rid of cereal. I love chocolate no-bake cookies - never thought of using a cereal besides oats. Thanks for the tip!
