Increase Bench Press Max

Increasing your bench press max weight is difficult when you hit a performance wall.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Spotter
  • Bench Press Shirt
  1. Step 1

Prepare your body to lift more weight. If you are trying to bench more weight, you are well aware of how important nutrition is. Along with taking your power lifting supplements, make sure to get enough sleep. Proper rest is an often overlooked aspect that can increase lifting strength.

  2. Step 2

Perform negatives with a spotter to build more strength and increase your max bench pres. Use a weight that is 25lbs heavier than your bench press maximum. Bring the weight down to your chest as your spotter helps and slowly counts to 5. Push the weight back up gradually with the your spotter's help.

  3. Step 3

Get angry before you perform the lift. Screaming (even if it's on the inside) can help improve muscle power by up to 25%. Get mad, real mad.

  4. Step 4

Consider using a bench press shirt. Although the shirt is not going to lift more weight for you, it can help put your muscles in the best position to improve your bench press. Bench press shirts are worth looking into if you are serious about benching more weight.
