As you continue to use your Emachines computer, over time it will eventually become cluttered with many files and programs you don't need. Whether the hard drive is simply full or your computer has contracted a virus, you may notice a serious reduction in speed from when you first setup your Emachines system. By removing all of the unwanted programs you can restore your Emachines computer to its original factory settings.

Instructions

      Insert the recovery CD that came with your Emachines computer into the computer's disk drive. Open the Start menu and select "Restart."

      Wait for the BIOS boot screen to appear. Press the Enter key to boot the Emachines computer from the recovery CD.

      Click the "Language" drop-down menu and choose the language you want to use. Click the "Next" button. Select the "Repair Your Computer" option.

      Click the name of your operating system from the list of options, e.g., "Windows Vista" or "Windows XP." Click "Next."

      Choose "System Restore" and then click "Next." Click on the earliest system restore point in the list and then click "Next."

      Click "Finish" and then click "Yes" to begin the restore process. Wait for the restore process to finish and then click "Restart."

Tips & Warnings

  • If your computer was infected with a virus and you don't want to lose all of your data, you don't have to completely restore the computer to its original factory settings. Instead of choosing the earliest system restore point, you can choose another restore point that was created before the computer was infected with the virus.

  • You may want to create backup copies of any data you still need before restoring the computer as any data on your hard drive will be wiped clean when the restore procedure finishes.
