How to Increase Leptin

Leptin is produced by fat cells and is an important hormone in weight loss and metabolism. Leptin is particularly significant in long-term dieting and health plans. Higher levels of leptin will cause you to feel less hungry and lose more weight. However, if you lose weight quickly, your leptin levels will decrease. This will cause your metabolism to drop, and the weight you have lost will return. This is why it is important to diet in a healthy and slow manner---leptin is the key to weight loss, and increasing your leptin levels will take time.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat healthy and do not crash diet. In the beginning your leptin levels will actually be lower, but this is normal. Give your body time to adjust in order to reset your leptin levels back to normal, and soon your body will recognize when it is full.

    • 2

Eat less sugar. Sugar and leptin do not mix well, as sugar causes your brain to be less sensitive to sugar. Try eating more fish. Omega-3 fatty acids aid sensitivity to leptin.

    • 3

Get plenty of sleep. Leptin levels increase when you are well rested. If you don't sleep enough, your body will compensate by making you hungrier.
