How to Download iPod Music

The iPod is one of the most popular portable music devices available. Putting music onto an iPod may be a frustrating task to a newcomer if you do not know how to navigate your way through the process. Once you know where to look for what you need to get it done, downloading music to your iPod will be a snap.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your iTunes software. You will need this software to put music onto your iPod. The iTunes software will organize all the music files into a virtual library. So if you do not have it yet, download the free software from Apple.com (see link in References).

Connect your iPod to your computer through the USB port. The iPod comes with this connector when you purchase it.

    • 3

Make sure your iPod is turned on. Once you connect your iPod to the computer, it will connect automatically to the iTunes software. When the iTunes software opens, you will see the icon for your iPod on the left-hand side, just under the library icons. The iPod setting window will open.

Go to your music library and select the song or songs you want to download. Select multiple songs in the library by clicking your first selection and holding "Shift" and clicking your final selection. Use the drag-and-drop feature in iTunes to drag the songs from the library window to the iPod icon on the left-side area. When you hover your selected songs over the iPod icon, you will see the icon become highlighted. When you do, release the mouse button.

Tips & Warnings

  • You also can adjust the settings in iTunes so that any new songs will automatically download (sync) to your iPod any time that you connect it to your computer.
