How to Design Free CD Labels

With the number of music download websites today and many bands releasing their music on the Internet, more people are downloading and producing custom CDs. Burning software makes it easy to compile these custom CDs, but to achieve a professional look, you need to create your own labels. Many software programs are available on the market designed to help you create custom labels for all your CDs.

Choose a CD/DVD label program. Before you look for additional software, check to see if your CD burning software has a label function. If not, Disketch is free software you can use to create CD labels with both text and graphics (see "Resources"). You can download the software, install it, and start creating labels for your CDs in just a few minutes. The software is easy to use and requires no expert knowledge.

Open Disketch. A new CD label project template will open. Begin entering your text right away. The label you're working on appears on the right; the text and graphic entry appears on the left. In the provided entry locations, type in the title of the CD, the artist, song titles and whatever other information you wish to include. You can use all of the information or choose your own custom text. You can also create a front and back cover for your disk cases with Disketch.

Choose the "Select Backgrounds Folder" tab to add the folder where you keep your images. The images will be made available to you. Click the image you want to use as your label image and Disketch will fit the image to your label.

Purchase CD labels from an office supply store and put the labels in your printer in place of your regular printer paper. Select "Print" from within Disketch and your labels will be printed. The CD label paper has a sticky based backing that you can peel away to stick your labels onto your CDs.
