Just like any academic research paper, it's important to follow the standard structure. It's also vital to keep in mind that the structure does change, so when writing a research paper always be sure to use the most updated version of the APA Publication Manual.

The title should say as much as possible about the content of your psychology report in the least words possible.

Your abstract is a brief summary of your paper that highlights significant key points. An abstract is typically one paragraph long.

The introduction explains to the reader what the problem is, the question that arises, and why this is important.

The method reveals exactly how you approached the research or experiment, in a way that it can be replicated. Like the rest of the paper, it should be stated in a simple and elegant manner. The method will include sub-sections, such as subject, material, and procedure.

Your results are expressed in a summary of what was found. It will not purely contain raw data or a general statement, but rather something in between. Tables, charts, and graphs are especially useful.

Discussion. Begin with the summary of results and later relate your results to your original question. This will be an analytical commentary that provides what can and can't be concluded.

In your references, citations are listed. The purpose of citations is so that your reader and go back and retrieve a source cited in your paper. There are various ways of citing a source, depending on the type of periodical.

Tips & Warnings
Footnotes are also an option after references. This typically occurs when you want to add something that is not completely necessary, but are difficult to resist mentioning
