Knockout Roses have been genitically engineered to withstand cold weather better than any other kind of rose bush. Although the leaves will fall off and the bush will appear dormant in the winter, the Knockout Roses will appear the following spring just as they did the previous year, all with just a little help from you to keep the plant insulated through the cooler winter months.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wait for the first big frost of the fall/winter. Up until this time just take care of your Knockout Roses the same as you would through the spring and summer.

  2. Step 2

Put mulch around the stems of the roses. A thick layer of mulch will help protect the plants' root system.

  3. Step 3

Avoid watering the plant if you are receiving any snow or rain. It takes longer for the roots to absorb the water during the cold months, and overwatering can drown your Knockout Roses.

  4. Step 4

Plant any outdoor potted Knockout Roses. The pot will not adequately protect the root system from the cold.
