How to Use Pop Bottles to Water Garden Plants
During the hot and dry summer months plants and flowers are susceptible to drying out. Sometimes we forget to water them and they end up shriveling away. This can all be remedied with a few pop bottles placed near the plants' base. With this method you provide a steady water supply to your garden with a gradual watering system, using a plastic bottle to deliver water directly into the soil. Things You'll Need
- 2-liter plastic soda bottle
- Drill with small drill bit
- Serrated knife
- Cutting surface
- Water
- Fertilizer

Drill 5 to 10 small holes into the cap of the plastic bottle. Use fewer holes for slower drips and make sure the holes are not too small, so they don't get clogged.

Cut vertically across the bottle using a serrated knife. Remove the bottom half of the bottle to create a funnel for pouring water into and to act as a source for catching water when it rains.

Dig a hole next to a plant or in the garden deep enough to bury one-third of the bottle. To hide the bottle, position it between a group of plants.

Place the bottle in the hole cape side down. Pressing firmly, secure the bottle into the hole and fill up with dirt.

Pour water into the bottle until it's completely full. The water will slowly seep into the ground and water your plants.

Fill the bottle when it's empty. Depending upon the weather and how much water your plants need, you might need to fill it up once or twice a day.
