While a garage is the usual place to keep your car, oftentimes the garage is used for storage and there is no room for the vehicle. Instructions

    • 1

Dig four holes using the post hole digger. The holes should be 18 inches deep and form a rectangle which is 8 feet on one side and 12 feet on the other (this measurement is taken from the edges of the rectangle). The inside measurements will be 7 feet 4 inches by 11 feet 4 inches.

    • 2

In the center of the long sides of the rectangle, dig two more holes that are 18 inches deep. You should now have six holes.

    • 3

Mix the cement with water. It should be the consistancy of wet mud.

    • 4

In the front holes of your car port you will place the 11-foot 4-by-4s. Make sure they are level on all sides and pour cement in the holes to hold them in place. Repeat this with the other posts, working backward. Behind the 11-foot pieces should be the 10-foot-6-inch pieces, followed by the 10-foot pieces. Make sure all are level and are placed in cement.

    • 5

Wait for the cement to dry. Place the 12-foot-long 2-by-6 pieces along the long sides of the rectangle and attach them with screws. The boards should slope downwards from front to back.

    • 6

Place the two 7-foot 4-inch boards in between the front and back posts. Attach them to the posts using the corner braces and flat brackets.

    • 7

Place your pieces of 3/4-inch plywood in three section on top of your frame. Screw the plywood to the top of the frame.

    • 8

Roll out the roofing on top of the plywood and nail it down.

Tips & Warnings

  • This carport should fit one standard-size automobile. If you would like to fit two cars underneath, simply double the width measurements and get double the plywood.

  • While it is not necessary to slant the roof, it is a good idea. If the roof is not slanted, moisture and leaves will begin to accumulate on your roof, which will speed decay.
