How to Fix a Disk Error on an MP3 Player

By Lindsay Howell

MP3 players play MP3 music files. The MP3 files are stored on a hard drive within the MP3 player. When you go to play a file and you receive a disk error, the best solution is to format the player's hard drive. Once the MP3 player's hard drive is formatted, all of the files and the disk error will be removed in the process.

Insert the MP3 player into the computer. If your MP3 has a built-in USB port, plug it into the computer's USB port. If you have to use a data connection cable, insert one end of the cable into the MP3 player and the other end into the computer's USB port.

Click the blue circle to open the "Start" menu, and click "Control Panel."

Go to "System and Security," then "Administrative Tools." Double-click "Computer Management" and type your administrator password if the computer has one.

Select "Disk Management." Right-click the MP3 player among the list in the right panel. Click "Format."

Click "OK" at the bottom of the screen, then "OK" on the next screen to format the MP3 player.
