How to Decorate With a Tall Flower Arrangement
Decorate your home or wedding with a tall flower arrangement to add height, create a conversation piece and a dramatic visual statement. Placement of a tall arrangement, whether silk or real, must be carefully chosen to avoid a busy, crowded or over-the-top look and feel. The arrangement should appear natural and fit in with the rest of the decor seamlessly. The types and colors of flowers, vase and style of the surrounding decor should be considered when choosing your arrangement. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Look at the surrounding area before placing the flower arrangement. Tall flower arrangements should become the focal point of the decor for the table or area where they are placed. If there are too many other decorative items, remove them and find a new home for them.
-
2
Fill the wall space behind the flower arrangement with artwork, a picture or mirror. The wall decor should be large enough to counterbalance the tall flower arrangement but not so large that it towers over it, detracting from it. Artwork should complement the arrangement or be simple in nature so the flower arrangement remains the focal point.

Two smaller items can be added to either side of the flower arrangement if it sits on a table. Small pillar candles, in colors complimentary to the flowers, or small decorative picture frames are two common choices. Arrangements that sit on the floor should not have any items flanking the vase.

Add fruit, potpourri, silk flowers or greenery to the inside of a clear vase. Use minimal amounts of filler for the vase, such as one or two sprigs of ivy or your chosen filler. Fruit or potpourri should only fill the bottom third of the vase, allowing for a break before the actual arrangement. Pebbles or glass beads are common vase fillers, as well.

Tips & Warnings
Tall flower arrangements used as wedding centerpieces are acceptable without additional decorative items surrounding the vase. If you do choose to have something lower to the table, consider small candles, silk rose petals or glass beads. The items should be small and complimentary so the focus remains on the actual flowers and vase. Tall arrangements with only a few actual flowers work better for modern rooms and minimalist decor. Full arrangements may better compliment Victorian or country decor. Mix different kinds of flowers using the same color or use different shades of the same flower.
Secure taller arrangements with something heavy in the bottom of the vase or container to avoid a top-heavy arrangement that may be in danger of falling over.
